NBA Team Grid Answer Guides

Team clues are the backbone of most NBA grid games. To improve, do not memorize one giant list. Build each franchise in layers: stars, title-era starters, role players, short-stint veterans, and category specialists.

Lakers Player Pool

Start with Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal, LeBron James, Pau Gasol, Anthony Davis, James Worthy, Michael Cooper, Robert Horry, Derek Fisher, Nick Van Exel, and Vlade Divac.

Short-stint and useful names: Gary Payton, Karl Malone, Dwight Howard, Dennis Rodman, Isaiah Rider, and Brook Lopez.

Celtics Player Pool

Use Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Al Horford.

Helpful depth: Jo Jo White, Cedric Maxwell, Danny Ainge, Antoine Walker, Dee Brown, Marcus Smart, and Derrick White.

Bulls Player Pool

Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen are obvious, but strong boards often require Horace Grant, Dennis Rodman, Toni Kukoc, Steve Kerr, Ron Harper, Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler, Joakim Noah, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan.

Think by era: Jordan title teams, the Rose/Noah group, and recent scoring wings.

Warriors Player Pool

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala, Tim Hardaway, Chris Mullin, Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, Monta Ellis, Latrell Sprewell, and Wilt Chamberlain all cover different eras.

Role-player memory helps: Shaun Livingston, Andrew Bogut, Kevon Looney, David Lee, and Harrison Barnes.

Heat Player Pool

Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway, Glen Rice, Udonis Haslem, Goran Dragic, Ray Allen, Shane Battier, and Mario Chalmers are strong anchors.

The Heat are especially useful for championship, Finals, defense, and short-stint veteran clues.

Spurs Player Pool

Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Kawhi Leonard, George Gervin, Sean Elliott, Avery Johnson, Bruce Bowen, Danny Green, Boris Diaw, and LaMarcus Aldridge cover most common Spurs intersections.

Spurs boards reward role memory because so many useful answers are championship rotation players.

Team Practice Method

For any franchise, write five legends, five starters, five role players, and five players who feel strange in that jersey. Then connect each name to at least one category: award, stat, decade, playoff run, or another team.

Dedicated Team Pages

Some franchises are deep enough to deserve their own guide pages because they appear often in grid games and connect to many categories. Start with the Lakers, Celtics, and Warriors, then apply the same method to whichever teams slow you down most.
